The Coast Guard is searching for a crew member of a tanker ship approximately 400 miles east of Cape Hatteras, Wednesday afternoon.  A man overboard was reported aboard the tanker ship Hellas Gladiator. The approximate time of the MOB was between 1100 hrs and 1300 hrs, EDT, 24 June 2020. The approximate position of the search centers on 33 58.2 N / 068 48.2 W.

All vessels transiting that area are requested to keep a sharp eye out and report any sightings to The USCG RCC Norfolk at telephone number (757-398-6231).

Coast Guard Searches for Missing Tanker Ship Crew Member 400 miles off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina 

CAPE HATTERAS, N.J. —The Coast Guard is searching for a crew member of a tanker ship approximately 400 miles east of Cape Hatteras, Wednesday afternoon.

Watch standers at the Coast Guard’s Fifth District command center received a report from watch standers at the Coast Guard’s First District Command Center that a man overboard had been reported aboard the tanker ship Hellas Gladiator. The approximate time of the MOB was between 1100 hrs and 1300 hrs, EDT, 24 June 2020. The approximate position of th search centers on 33 58.2 N / 068 48.2 W.

An Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130 Hercules aircraft was launched to search for the missing crew member, along with two good Samaritan vessels which were notified via Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue messages.

All vessels transiting that area are requested to keep a sharp eye out and report any sightings to The USCG RCC Norfolk at telephone number 757-398-6231, or via HF Radio to the SSCA HF TRANSATLANTIC CRUISERS NET, daily on frequency 8.152 and 12.350 at 1700 hrs, EDT, or the SSCA HF RADIO SERVICE NET daily at 0815 hrs EDT on frequency 8.104. FCC Call sign KPK.

Also, the tanker Hellas Gladiator is on scene and will remain there until further notice and is monitoring VHF Channel 16.
