CANCEL BOLO FOR S/V HOBO GIRL
Please cancel the BOLO for the S/V HOBO GIRL with solo captain Marek Hryniewiecki aboard. The HOBO GIRL experienced some degree of water ingress approximately 360 NM East of Daytona Beach, Florida on 10 May 2020, and texted a friend via a SPOT X satellite tracker, that he was taking on water. Soon thereafter, the SPOT X went silent, not connecting with the satellites.This launched a U.S. Coast Guard search with C-130 Hercules aircraft, but they did not locate the vessel. Then on 13 May 2020, the S/V HOBO GIRL contacted a commercial tanker to ask that his friend be notified that he and his vessel were ok, and he was now headed to Bermuda to make some repairs on the boat before continuing on to Europe.
This morning, at 5:06 AM EDT, 20 May 2020, Boatwatch.org received an e-mail from Capt.Hryniewiecki’s nephew in Poland that the HOBO GIRL has safely arrived in Bermuda. The family is very happy to know their Uncle is safe and thanked the USCG and Boatwatch.org for their support.

1400 hrs 17 May 2020 UPDATE FROM RCC MIAMI
We have very good news regarding the S/V HOBO GIRL.
RCC Miami advised on 13 May 2020 at 1515 hrs UTC, Capt. Marek, aboard the S/V HOBO GIRL, contacted the commercial ship ECO NEBULA in position 31 11.1 N / 070 10 W via VHF radio. He told the ship that he was ok, the boat is ok, and is headed to Bermuda to make some repairs.
The USCG RCC Miami advised they are continuing to search the area from where the S/V HOBO GIRL spoke to the tanker, to Bermuda. The authorities in Bermuda are also on the lookout for his arrival.
Capt. Marek’s friends have advised, they believe Capt Marek will have benign sailing conditions, and reach Bermuda on Friday 22 May 2020 or Saturday 23 May 2020.
The USCG RCC Miami advised they are continuing to search the area from where the S/V HOBO GIRL spoke to the tanker, to Bermuda. The authorities in Bermuda are also on the lookout for his arrival.

1730 hrs 16 May 2020 UPDATE from RCC Miami.
Interviews of acquaintances of Capt MAREK indicate his planned destination was not firm. He mentioned going to Bermuda, the Canary Islands, and Spain. Authorities in Bermuda are on alert for him. His SPOT X device is still not pinging the Globalstar satellites. The USCG is continuing to search with C-130 Hercules aircraft.

The U.S.Coast Guard, Rescue Coordination Center, Miami, Florida has an active search for the S/V HOBO GIRL.
The vessel is a 1975 Cabo Rico Tiburon 36 Ketch which he has owned for ten years. This vessel is a bluewater cruising sailboat that evolved from the many sea-going experiences of its designer W.I.B. Crealock, its builder Cabo Rico, and scores of dedicated cruising sailors. From the full keel up to her traditional lines, she was designed for safety, comfort, and beauty.
Hull Number TAET0020875; Florida Registration FL 6938CH, issued 06 April 2020, registered to MAREK HRYNIEWIECKI. He does have a life-raft and an EPIRB on board this boat. His last marina was the Riverside Marina, 2350 Old Dixie Highway, Ft Pierce, FL 34946.
MAREK HRYNIEWIECKI, age 66, is from Wroclaw, Poland, and believed to be on a voyage from Florida to Italy. This is believed to be his first trans-atlantic passage, but he has 30 years experience as a sailor.
Mr. HRYNIEWIECKI carried a SPOT X which he purchased in Ft Pierce. The SPOT X SOS Button was not activated. However his last known position on 10 May 2020 was 29-27.509 N / 074-09.991 W, or approximately 360 NM East of Daytona Beach, Florida when he texted a friend saying he was taking on water. The friend did not notify the USCG until 15 May 2020. No further tracker is pinging the Globalstar satellite since 10 May 2020, so the USCG is assuming he may be in trouble.
The USCG Has launched a C-130 Hercules to investigate.
