Sector North Carolina command center watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched multiple Coast Guard assets.

Keep a sharp look out North of Frying Pan Shoals in the Gulf Stream and report all sightings to USCG.

UPDATE: Coast Guard suspends search for overdue boater in the vicinity of Frying Pan Shoals, North Carolina 

 WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 44-year-old man in the vicinity of Frying Pan Shoals, North Carolina, Monday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina command center received a report from a friend of the boater.

The mariner was seen on surveillance footage leaving the Federal Point Yacht Club on Monday, November 22 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on his 19-foot SeaCraft vessel.

The Coast Guard searched a total of approximately 7,498 square miles over the course of 53 hours.

Assets that conducted searches are:

  • A C-130 Hercules aircraft aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City

  • A 47-foot Motor Life Boat boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Oak Island

  • A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach

  • Coast Guard Cutter Richard Snyder

  • Coast Guard Cutter Razorbill 

“The decision to suspend a search is made after careful consideration of all aspects of a case,” said Cmdr. Corrie Sergent, the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator for this case. “Oursincere thoughts go out to the family and friends of the individual involved in this case.”

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard is searching for a 44-year-old man in the vicinity of Frying Pan Shoals, North Carolina, Saturday.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina command center received a report from a friend of the boater. He was scheduled to meet with the man approximately 3 miles West of Frying Pan Tower Saturday, 27 Nov 2021, but he never showed.
The mariner is a 44 year-old caucasian male who is 6 feet, 2 inches tall with red hair weighing 220 pounds.
The mariner was seen on surveillance footage leaving the Federal Point Yacht Club between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on his 19-foot SeaCraft vessel.
However, subsequest investigation has revealed the man departed the Federal Point Yacht Club on Monday 22 Nov 2021.
Friends of the mariner reported that he has life jackets and a radio on board his vessel.

The Coast Guard is searching for a missing boater who never showed up to meet his friend a few miles from Frying Pan Tower off the coast of North Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Crews are searching for a missing boater who never showed up to meet his friend off the North Carolina coast. The 44-year-old was last seen on surveillance video leaving Federal Point Yacht Club in Carolina Beach between 10 and 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, on a 19-foot SeaCraft boat, according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard. His friend told the Coast Guard that the man was supposed to meet him about 3 miles west of Frying Pan Tower, which is located about 32 miles off the coast of North Carolina, but never showed.

Boat and air crews with the Coast Guard are searching the area near Frying Pan Shoals for the boater. The boater’s friends said he had life jackets and a radio onboard with him, according to the Coast Guard.
