UPDATE: 0645 hrs, 26 Feb 2020: USCG RCC Miami advised the search has been suspended for the M/V ROME.

Update February 20, 2020 – U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) Miami, FL has asked for assistance in locating the MV ROME, a 52′ steel motor yacht. The occupants are father and son GERALD COOK, age 81, and his son PETER COOK, age 57. The two men departed Port St Joe, Panama City, FL on 13 FEB 2020 with the intentions of passing through Lake Okeechobee and then up to Vero Beach, FL. The US Coast Guard is actively searching the area from Panama City, Florida to Naples, Florida. Anyone with any information regarding this vessel is requested to contact USCG RCC Miami at 305-415-6800 and Glenn@Boatwatch.org.

USCG rescues two other boaters while searching for MV ROME

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Coast Guard located two boaters in a life raft five miles off Caladesi Island Wednesday.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater C-130J Hercules aircrew saw the debris of a commercial fishing vessel and two people while conducting a search pattern for two different overdue boaters from Panama City, Florida.

The two survivors where picked up by a Good Samaritan and taken to Port of Hudson Marina where they were met by Pasco County EMS.

“These two were fortunate we came across them,” said Lt. Karinne Marical. “We encourage recreational and commercial vessels to have proper safety and communication equipment on board at all times

Note: these two people are not the father and son that are missing from MV ROME.
