BOLO for Large Door of Airplane Miami to Ft. Lauderdale

Boatwatch.org has received a Flotsam and Jetsam report from KLM Amsterdam, Holland and the Dutch Civil Aviation Authorities concerning a large air conditioning compartment access door of a Boeing 747 which was lost over the ocean in the Miami area on August 25, 2024.

The panel was lost from a Boeing 747, probably during climb out of Miami international airport in South-Easterly direction, likely at an altitude of 8000 to 15000 feet. Prevailing wind direction on the day and the ocean currents, are such that the part will probably move along the coast of Florida and wash up between Miami and Ft Lauderdale or even further north. Part is needed by the airline as part of an incident investigation.

The large air conditioning compartment access door of the airliner is white. The skin is aluminum alloy with a slight longitudinal bend and reinforced with composite on the inside. The exact size is unknown, but approximately 12 x 4 feet. It has five latches on three sides and three hinge points (or the remnants thereof) on one side.

Keep a sharp lookout and report any sightings to RCC Miami (305-415-6800) and the Dutch Civil Aviation Authorities( Tjerk.vandergrijp@martinair.com) (31654631332).
